2005-2007

Fauna & Flora International is an international conservation organisation, working with over 100 projects in nearly 40 countries, mostly in the developing world. Traditionally focusing on biodiversity and wildlife conservation, FFI realised that human needs and rural livelihoods are intrinsically linked to sustainable use and conservation of habitats. With funding from the Dutch Directorate General for International Cooperation (DGIS), FFI initiated a four-year programme entitled ‘Resources for Improved Livelihoods’, with the aim of mainstreaming a common understanding of and approach towards livelihoods interventions, which reduce both poverty and threats to biodiversity across its project portfolio.

Services provided

Triple Line supported organisational development and capacity building support to the newly formed livelihoods team in FFI. This included training and mentoring of key staff, undertaking field-based case studies (in Vietnam and South Africa) of individual projects to learn lessons about the challenges and opportunities of incorporating a human needs perspective into conservation work.

The organisational change process was documented for FFI.

Achievements

As a result of the support and of FFI’s commitment, a livelihoods perspective has now been integrated into virtually all of FFI’s projects.
