Client: German Agency for International  Cooperation (GIZ) / European Commission (EC)

Country: Europe
Year:
2009-11

The European Initiative for Agricultural Research for Development (EIARD) was formed in 1995 with the purpose to enhance the appropriateness and effectiveness of European investments in agricultural research for development at national, regional and international levels. The EC is supporting EIARD with a grant under the Food Security Thematic Programme, in order to develop ‘Coherent, coordinated (at national, regional and global levels), relevant and effective European policies for and investments in agricultural research for development that support the food security agenda’.

The three outcomes of the project were:

  • Improved donor coordination, harmonisation and alignment on agricultural research development;
  • Participation of Civil Society in international policy dialogue, and
  • Advocacy, awareness raising and education for a more effective contribution of agricultural research  to food security.

Services provided

Triple Line provided a part-time technical coordinator for the EIARD FSTP project, who supported  liaison and facilitation to GIZ and the EIARD Project Management Team, monitored the overall progress of the project, and wrote annual implementation reports for submission to the EC.

Achievements

The project has enabled EIARD to play a more proactive role in coordinating and harmonising European agricultural reseach and development policies and investments. It also resulted in a stronger European voice during the 2010 Global Conference for Agricultural Research for Development (GARD) in Montpellier.
