A joint workshop was held by the Africa Humanitarian Network and the Africa Hunger Task Team in November 2006. The objectives of the event entitled ‘Improving Humanitarian Response, Tackling Hunger and Reducing Risk in Africa’ were to explore linkages between the three policy strands and delivery areas Humanitarian Response, Breaking the cycle of Hunger, and Disaster Risk Reduction. Specifically, the workshop aimed at giving participants the opportunity to
- obtain an overview of the three delivery areas and related policies (day one),
- develop a better understanding of each of the delivery areas, and particular challenges related to them (day two), and
- identify linkages and communalities between the three areas, in order to move towards a common framework for them (day three).
Services provided
Triple Line facilitatated the workshop, assisted in workshop preparations and produced a summary report.
Achievements
As a result of the workshop, links between the three strands of work were clearly recognised, and participants agreed to explore possibilities for using a common assessment and analytical framework to meet the needs of all three. A number of specific action points were agreed.
